BUFU IS BY US FOR US
// WYFY WITH YOU FOR YOU.
A PROJECT BASED COLLECTIVE INTERESTED IN SOLIDARITY AMONGST US,
CO-CREATING WITH YOU EXPERIMENTAL MODELS OF ORGANIZING & MAKING
- GENERATING PRESTIGE & MINING TIME AS A RESOURCE.
The 5 co-founders of this project (Jazmin Jones, Jiun Kwon, Tsige Tafesse, Katherine Tom, and Suhyun Choi) started BUFU in September 2015. Since then, we’ve expanded our work through collaborating with multiple partner organizations, collectives, and individuals. We wish to to highlight the lived experiences of those who have been impacted politically and socially by white supremacy, while de-centering whiteness and resurfacing our deeply interconnected and complicated histories. This evolving archive lives online, on a screen, in an exhibition, in a journal, with endless possibilities for growth.
In October 2015, one of our dearly beloved co-founders, friend, and ally Jiun Kwon passed away. Her spirit remains amongst us and within the heart of the project. What would things be like if she was still around? Her passing was so sudden, abrupt, and heartbreaking. Whenever we speak of how BUFU was created, we will always remember Jiun Kwon, our beloved sister. Wish you were still here and know that in many ways your
love, warmth, energy, and wisdom is - guiding this project & us.
We love you so much.
There are no words to describe this loss, this feeling of an absence.
You are always with us no matter what.
This video is of BUFU in Korea where we hiked to the top of Namsan Mountain
to leave a lock of love in honor of Jiun Kwon 💕
Rest in Power our dear friend, sister, and original co-founder
